I finally found an appropriate Wood to make the La Belle 1684 from and that is some recycled Hemlock. I’ve planed the pieces to the appropriate thicknesses of 1/2” and 3/8” and today I’ve applied the pattern templates to the pieces. You will notice I have a white and also clear contact paper on top of the Hemlock. That is only due to availability at the store and not function. I quite prefer this paper for larger pieces as the removal process is so very easy to peel off. Next step is too drill any holes and review each piece before cutting out the Hull pieces, bear with me on progress as Winter is upon me and hobby time is limited.

Looking forward to seeing this model made and watch the progress as you build if you get time.
Today I was fortunate to have a very nice Winter day around 40 degrees F. which allowed me to get a little hobby time in my small shop. I cut out part #1 and located the centers for the drilling of the 3/8” Mast. I drilled pilot holes of 2 increasing diameters for each hole and will drill the final 3/8” hole after part #2 is glued to the side of part #1. I am drilling the final hole then as the 3 parts sandwich together will be strong to prevent any splintering from my final drilling of 3/8”.
I love to watch the models being made and looking good can not wait see this made.
While working on glueing part #2 to part #1 of the Hull I figured I better make the stand as I may be needing it soon to support the Hull when complete. Made it out of Walnut with uprights glued and pegged to base.
Good idea with making the stand first and looking very nice.
This picture shows parts #1 and #2 of the Hull glued and positioned on the stand. On to parts #3 next to align also to the side of the Hull.
Started to take shape now and looking a good size and you were right about making the stand first.
This picture will show my basic clamping of the sides to form the Hull. This is piece #3 being glued.
Looking good this is going to be a nice model.
Main Hull complete with final outside section left to cut out and install. Today I trimmed on the bandsaw the uneven edges of the decking , before and after pictures.
This going look very nice with the dark wood for the stand and light wood for the Main Hull
It’s my pleasure to say the wintry weather has given me a warmer opportunity to get out into the hobby shop. I was able to cut the outside pieces of the Hull ,sand and fit up to glue one side. Tomorrow I’ll remove the clamps and position and glue the opposite side.
Looking good and looks like that is the hull all finished now i will post these pictures on facebook when all the ship is finished so they can see the ship made from start to finish.
Nice, cross your fingers for early spring seasonal weather !
Clamps have been removed and main body of Ships Hull is complete minus finish sanding. Next will be lifeboat and deck ladders .
Not much more to do now to the finish of making the ship and looking good already
Today thanks to Lloyd answering a question on the Mast I was able to cut the 3/8” diameter Poplar dowel for the Mast .
That as started to look really good now
Spring season is here and it’s hobby time for my small shop ! I made the Ships Dinghy out of Poplar wood and am quite happy with the fit and look.
This is going to be a very nice model
Today found me working on the Ships various ladders .
